FAQ

What is Conexus?

Conexus is a provider of Durable Medical Equipment (DME), Home Health and related services to the workers’ compensation industry. Our program was thoughtfully designed to meet the unique needs of public entities and self-insured employers.

Who makes up your provider network?

The California network includes over 2,100 community-based providers. This is made possible via our unique partnership with a division of the nation’s largest group purchasing organization in the HME industry. Through these providers Conexus provides access to home medical and respiratory equipment, custom seating and mobility products, home health nursing and IV therapy, physical, occupational, and speech therapies, orthotics and prosthetics, patient transportation and translation services, home and vehicle modification, hearing devices and supplies, electro medical devices, bone growth stimulators, wound care and ostomy supplies, diabetic products including insulin pumps as well as a variety of other specialty products.

What is your turnaround time for deliveries?

Most orders are completed or arranged for the same day. This may involve scheduling an appointment, delivery or evaluation and is dependent on the patient’s discharge and availability. Urgent orders are coordinated within two hours.

Can you customize the referral or order entry process?

We recognize each of our clients’ needs vary and systems are designed to maintain maximum flexibility to accommodate individual client needs.

Do you auto-ship TENS or medical supplies?

No. We do not auto-ship.
We monitor all supply utilization to ensure injured workers only get what they use. Any unusual supply utilization is reported to the injured worker’s Case Manager or Adjuster.

Do you drop ship items?

Except for electro medical units and supplies, and medical supplies, we do not drop ship. All equipment is delivered by local network providers. This ensures all equipment is in proper working order and injured workers/caregivers are instructed on proper use.

How often is the Case Manager/Adjuster contacted? Is there follow-up communication as well?

Case Managers and Adjusters are kept in the communication “loop” throughout the referral process. After placing a referral, Case Managers and Adjusters receive an e-mail or fax reconfirming the order, including rates, if applicable. We send a final e-mail or fax after the item has been delivered and our follow-up is completed.

Do you have a quality process and indicators that validate quality?

Conexus has internal processes that provide an ongoing mechanism for review and evaluation of all services provided. The goal is to improve overall performance, as well as to correctly identify problems, trends and deficiencies. Process improvement is an ongoing initiative and tracking outcomes helps identify the need for changes to internal business operations.

How do you ensure provider quality?

Information about network providers collected during the contracting and credentialing process validates each provider meets an acceptable level of quality performance standards. Providers are asked to submit the following information:

  • The completed provider application
  • A copy of their business accreditation certificates/licensures and personal credentialing/licensures of employees or contracted professionals
  • A copy of current liability insurance coverage
  • A copy of their W-9
  • Summary of professional liability claims for past (5) five years if applicable
  • A list of current locations and hours of operations
  • A copy of their existing quality/improvement management program
  • A copy of their existing HIPAA Privacy Policy Practices
Do you accept returns for unused products?

Yes, with certain limitations. Contact us for more information.

Do you offer CEUs?

Yes. CONEXUS has partnered with an online educational content provider to help Case Managers and Adjusters stay abreast of industry knowledge and fulfill continuing education requirements. The expanding course curriculum is written by industry professionals and offers CEUs from several accrediting agencies, including the Commission for Case Manager Certification (CCMC).

Does Conexus charge for shipping and handling or delivery?

Our standard policy is that all delivery is free. There may be cases when a patient needs a particular item(s) by the next day and special ordering is required. In such cases where premium shipping is requested, it will be discussed with the patient and Case Manager/Adjuster before Conexus bills for it.

What happens if your network provider bills us directly?

This occurs infrequently. If it does, please notify us immediately. We will address the matter with the local provider and reiterate the procedure for billing claims.
